Juwan Ayers
Commercial Banker, Charleston, SC
Juwan and his wife share something funny in common. They’re both fans of mnemonic phrases or memory aides. Their favorite one to use around the house is PUSH which stands for:
Positive
Uplifting
Strong
Humble
PUSH wasn’t a concept that Juwan picked up from a TedTalk. He came up with it when he was Student Government Association president at South Carolina State. But the inspiration for this life motto came from his dad. When asked about his father, Juwan said, “My dad inspires me by reminding me to do what I can, and God will do the rest.”
No doubt, between his wife and father, Juwan has a strong support system. However, he also has a professional mentor in Chuck Garnett, a retired division CEO at Synovus.
“Chuck taught me to trust the process and helped me put my best self forward by taking the initiative and not being afraid to put myself out there. Because nobody knows you if you’re not putting yourself out there.”
Of course, someone who creates their own mnemonic phrases must be interested in the power of speech. That’s why his favorite book from which to draw inspiration is T.D. Jakes’ “Don’t Drop the Mic: The Power of Your Words Can Change the World.”
And when it comes to the inspiring words that Juwan wants to impart with his community, you can probably guess four:
- PUSH (Positive, Uplifting, Strong, Humble).
- Put yourself out there.
- See it through.
