Lifelong curiosity, love of learning elevates mortgage banker’s career

Gregory Page loves learning, and growing up on a farm in Corner, Alabama, fed his natural curiosity. He and his six siblings, as he says, started working when they were tall enough to reach a beanstalk.

Farm life introduced Page, the youngest of the siblings, to hard work. The lessons he learned inspired his dedication to the work he does as a mortgage banker. With one year left in law school, he decided to pursue a career in the financial industry, after working part-time at Alabama Power’s collections call center.

“From that experience, I decided I wanted to stay in the financial industry,” he shares. Page, a loan servicing compliance analyst, entered mortgage banking, merging his passion for law with his role where he ensures customer service adheres to company policies and federal guidelines.

“I’m fascinated by rules, laws and regulations related to mortgage banking, and I always look for opportunities to learn and share that knowledge with my team,” he says. “The Mortgage Bankers Association Education Path to Diversity Scholarship program gave me more confidence and helped me obtain compliance knowledge.”

In 2024, Page enrolled in the program, which awarded him $2,000 for virtual classes from the Mortgage Bankers Association to become a Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager. The courses covered laws, rules and regulations from the mortgage origination stage to servicing.

“I’m fascinated by rules, laws and regulations related to mortgage banking, and I always look for opportunities to learn and share that knowledge with my team. The Mortgage Bankers Association Education Path to Diversity Scholarship program gave me more confidence and helped me obtain compliance knowledge.”

The program aims to empower industry professionals from all backgrounds by providing continuous education opportunities tailored to career advancement. According to the website, the program focuses on promoting inclusion within the industry to reflect the communities the students serve.

Page and his team found value in the CRCM program. He now shares his insights with others. “When a team member asks, ‘Can I do this or that?,’ I confidently share my expertise based on what I learned in the CRCM program,” he explains.

Emily Glass, manager of mortgage servicing at Synovus, who works with Page, says, “The skillset obtained in the program enhances his current role regarding quality assurance and provides additional knowledge for collaboration on future projects with our team and partners in compliance and risk mitigation.”

Page shares how excited he is to participate in phase two of the program this year. Each class is a stepping stone, taking him to the next level of his and his team’s success. “Things are constantly changing, and by staying educated and up to date, I’m able to maintain high standards,” he says.
