Teeing off for success

Meeting the moment

As the head golf coach at historic Morehouse College, Edgar helps prepare the next generation of leaders to fulfill their potential. “I want them to learn they can work hard and get what they want in life, regardless of their circumstances.”

Edgar offers the same message to the young participants in the financial literacy workshops he co-hosts with bankers from Synovus. Edgar’s goal at these events is to show attendees how they can apply discipline both to their budgeting and to learning a lucrative sport that has become synonymous with networking and career advancement.

In this video, Edgar freely acknowledges learning lessons about money the hard way. “I made so many mistakes, especially right out of college,” adding, “Everything we’re doing with this youth program is something I wish I’d had when I was a kid.” His goals now include expanding the workshops beyond metro Atlanta to South Florida.

Synovus executive Liz Wolverton recently joined Edgar to recall how it was immediately clear he was prepared to pursue his dream when he invited the bank to sponsor “Saturday Foursome”. Today, the program is poised to take off nationwide as part of Delta Air Lines’ in-flight entertainment. With a bit of help from his self-designed shoes, Edgar remains dedicated to keeping his journey of inspiring others firmly on course. “It doesn’t matter where you start out, if you just lock in. Commit to getting one percent better every day. When your moment comes, you’ll be ready to rock and roll.”
