The Benefits of Using Zelle®
Your friend charged your lunch to their credit card, your sister covered the Airbnb for the family vacation, or another mom in your carpool group bought end-of-season gifts for your kid’s soccer coach. You want to settle up for your share. Sure, you could give them cash, but who carries cash these days? Instead, you can make these payments quickly and securely with Zelle® using the Synovus app or website.
What Is Zelle®?
Zelle® allows users to send and receive money directly from their bank account to anyone else's bank account in the U.S. Unlike third-party payment platforms, Zelle® integrates directly into the online banking apps of its participating banks — currently more than 2,000 financial institutions nationwide1 — to offer a seamless and efficient way to send money.
How Does Zelle® Work?
To use Zelle®, you just need a U.S. bank account. Then, using Zelle® is pretty straightforward:
Step 1: Enroll
Enroll with Zelle® through your bank’s mobile app or website, or via the Zelle® app. You’ll need to provide your email address or U.S. mobile number, as this is the information other users will need to send you money.
Step 2: Send Money
To send money, all you need is the Zelle® QR code, email address or U.S. mobile phone number. If the recipient is already enrolled with Zelle®, the money will transfer directly to their bank account, usually within minutes.
If they’re not yet enrolled, the recipient gets a notification guiding them to complete the setup to receive their money.
Synovus limits Zelle® payments to $1,000 per day and no more than $10,000 in the last 30 days.
Zelle® is for sending payments to people you know and trust, so you might not want to use it for something like buying an item from a stranger through Facebook Marketplace or another online platform. If you send money and later realize it’s a scam, you might not be able to get your money back1.
Advantages of Using Zelle
Zelle® offers several advantages over some other payment methods.
- Speed and convenience. One of its primary benefits is how fast money is sent. Transfers between enrolled users happen within minutes, making it an easy way to send money. This immediacy is beneficial for splitting the cost of a bill or paying rent.2
- Security. You don’t need to share sensitive financial information to send or receive money with Zelle® since transactions only require the recipient’s email address or U.S. mobile number tied to a U.S. bank account.2
- No fees. Zelle® does not charge fees for sending or receiving money. Using it through Synovus is free.
Should You Use Zelle®?
Zelle® is a great option for quickly sending money between family and friends, so try it the next time you want to split costs without the hassle of checks or cash.2
To avoid scams, always double-check the recipient’s details before sending money and limit Zelle® use to people and businesses you know and trust.
By using Zelle® wisely, you can enjoy the benefits of quick and easy payments.
