Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home has been a Thomasville institution for decades
When faced with the loss of a loved one, the tasks can seem overwhelming. That’s where Ben Hatcher of Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home steps in. His friendly spirit is well-known throughout Thomasville and the surrounding areas. After all, he’s been a mainstay of their business community since 1966.
“My first year in business, we served fifty-two families,” he says. “Our business has grown up to serving 130 families per year.”
Hatcher-Peoples Funeral Home has a long history in the area, but he has an even longer one with Synovus, where he opened a savings account in 1955.
“At the time, I was delivering newspapers in the morning and afternoon,” he explains. “I opened my first business account after I opened the funeral home.”
His accounts have evolved as his needs have and have included lines of credit, business checking, business savings, and even trust accounts for pre-arranged, funded funerals. He has served on the local board of directors since 1993, an experience he calls one of the greatest of his business career.
“Our business has grown up to serving 130 families per year.”
“Synovus has helped me tremendously in my early years in business by letting me get 90-day loans when needed. They also financed some of my hearses and cars when I could not get financial assistance anywhere else,” he says.
Hatcher knows it’s the relationships that have kept his business with Synovus. For over 55 years, he has enjoyed an exceptional relationship with Bruce McRae, Fred Jefferson, and John Polhill, among others, including Joe Beverly, the past president and chairman of the board.
“Down through the years, we developed a friendship while doing business with each other. We have a profound respect for each other in personal and business affairs.”
