Sean Simpson

Division CEO

Sean Simpson began his career with Synovus in 2003 as group retail manager/executive in Sarasota, Florida. Since then, he’s held various roles within Synovus, including community/regional executive for Florida’s West Coast, regional chief operating and administrative officer for the same market, group executive for business banking at the company’s headquarters, and group executive for the retail branch network across the entire Synovus footprint. In 2019, during the Florida Community Bank acquisition, Sean was named Division CEO for the newly expanded Central and South Florida markets.

As Division CEO, Sean is responsible for the Community Banking operation for the Florida Division. He leads a talented team of professionals in executing the bank’s strategy across the Florida footprint for the areas of Retail Banking, Commercial Banking, and Private Wealth Management. Sean is devoted to supporting valued initiatives in all of Synovus’s business interests, which are designed to drive growth in our local markets, reduce expenses, and increase shareholder value.

Sean earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from Auburn University, and he holds an MBA from the University of Florida. In his free time, Sean enjoys spending time with his family and relaxing on Florida’s beautiful beaches.

Kevin Gillen

Market Executive

Kevin Gillen joined Synovus as a market executive in 2020, bringing with him the insightful leadership he’d honed over four decades in banking in multiple parts of the country. He’s committed to showing his team the value of asking the right questions to help clients reach their goals. Kevin’s experience encompasses the banking spectrum, from retail to commercial to government, along with residential mortgage, consumer lending and call center management. A triple major in college, he came to Synovus after expanding his knowledge as director of supply chain strategy for an employment background screening company.

Kevin is recognized as a banking leader across Florida, serving on the boards of Enterprise Florida and the Broward Workshop, as well as the Florida Bankers Association, who bestowed upon him their Horizon Award. Active in his community, Kevin currently volunteers with the Sarasota Chamber of Commerce, Gulf Coast Builders Exchange, and Lakewood Ranch Business Alliance. A Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, Kevin also chairs the board of Jesus the Father of the Poor Clinic, an organization delivering aid to the people of Haiti.

Kevin and his wife have four children, ranging from teenagers to early thirties. A Boston Terrier and a Yorkie round out the current crew. The former youth football coach enjoys fishing and SEC football, especially Ole Miss.

Work in our community

Kevin was a member of SHRM and the Sarasota / Manatee SHRA Chapter; College Relations Chair, board member for Family Success Institute and a pre-IPO mortgage service firm. He is Chair for Jesus Father of the Poor Clinic – Haiti. He is an advisory board member for the business and accountancy school at State College of Florida.

He was appointed by former Florida Governor Scott to the Enterprise Florida Board. He was on the board for The Broward Workshop and the Florida Bankers Association.

He served in numerous New Jersey based community organizations before moving to Virginia, including Chairman of the Board for the Gateway Chamber of Commerce, Family Intervention Services and a board member of Rotary, Morris EDC, Better Business Bureau, State Chamber of Commerce, United Way, Business and Education Together, the Morris Union Foundation for Autism, Caldwell College and Leukemia Society. Kevin is also a 4th degree knight for the Knight of Columbus. In Virginia he served as a Board Member for the Northern Virginia Community Foundation, Greater Washington Board of Trade and Northern Virginia Family Services.


 

Sarah Butcher

Community Banking Executive

Sarah brings more than a decade of expertise in commercial real estate underwriting and portfolio management to her role at Synovus. Before joining us in 2014, she was a senior portfolio management officer for Bank of America’s commercial real estate team. Based in Tampa, she now oversees commercial real estate business development and sales strategies for developers and investors in our footprint (Pasco, Pinellas, Hillsborough, Manatee, Sarasota, Lee and Collier counties). She’s extremely experienced in arranging construction, acquisition and refinance lending packages for a broad range of commercial projects, including multifamily, retail, office, industrial, hospitality and senior housing. Sarah is a marathon runner and Ironman triathlete with an interest in world travel.
