Synovus awards 118 students with college scholarships

COLUMBUS, Ga., Aug. 26, 2025 — More than 118 students have been awarded $106,250 from Synovus as part of the bank’s annual Jack Parker Scholarship. The scholarship is available to children of Synovus team members who excel academically, demonstrate strong leadership and participate in activities that enhance their communities.

Additionally, Synovus awards one outstanding student as the Jack Parker Scholar. Murray Turner of Pensacola, Florida, received the top scholar honor this year.

Turner graduated from Pensacola High School as class valedictorian in May and will attend Tufts University, where he will study biology with a pre-med track. A recipient of numerous academic honors and awards, Turner was named an AP Scholar with Distinction, was actively involved in the Future Business Leaders of America chapter and conducted research on biological oxygen demand correlated to increased recreational boating.

Turner was a member of his high school’s tennis team, local sailing team and city rowing club, and volunteered with many local service organizations focused on diplomacy, leadership and early childhood literacy. An Eagle Scout, he also worked as a summer sailing camp instructor and an online SAT tutor. Turner is the son of Paula Turner, a financial advisor with Synovus Securities. 

The scholarship program is named in honor of Jack B. Parker, who had a 44-year career with Synovus. The Jack B. Parker Foundation Inc. manages the scholarship program.

Team member donations and internal fundraising activities fund the Jack Parker Scholarship. Since its inception in 1988, the program has awarded more than $2 million in scholarships to students.
