Synovus Names Emory Parker Americus Market President

AMERICUS, Ga., February 28, 2022 — Synovus Bank today announced the appointment of Emory Parker Jr. as market president for Americus. Parker joins Synovus from PeoplesSouth Bank and succeeds Buddy Guth, who will retire March 31 after 37 years of service to Synovus.

“Emory Parker is a collaborative leader with a deep understanding of the local market and its development opportunities," said Ty Turner, Synovus regional market president. “When I first joined Synovus, I had the pleasure of working with Emory's father, and I am thrilled Emory chose to continue his family's legacy of stewardship to Americus. While it is difficult to see Buddy, my first supervisor, leave the company after nearly four decades of service, I am confident this transition will enable Synovus to continue its people-first approach to banking. On behalf of the entire Americus market, I want to thank Buddy for his unwavering mentorship and many contributions. Congratulations on a well-earned retirement.”

Parker has nearly 30 years of financial management experience, serving most recently as Americus city president with PeoplesSouth Bank. Prior to PeoplesSouth, he held the role of vice president at First State Bank, managing all facets of the company's lending, budgeting, and human resource efforts. Parker began his banking career with Citizen Bank of Americus in 1993. An Americus native, Parker holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Georgia Southwestern State University and is a graduate of the Louisiana State University Graduate School of Banking and the American Bankers Association Community Banking Lending School. He is a life trustee of the Georgia Southwestern State University Foundation, a Sigma Chi, and a Sunday school teacher and deacon at First Baptist Church.

"My dad worked at Synovus for more than 20 years and retired from the company in 1999," said Parker. "He taught me the importance of community service and helping others, and I joined Synovus to do just that. I look forward to working with our citizens and local businesses to help them reach their financial goals, thus benefiting the Americus community and Southwest Georgia."
