Taylor Retires from Synovus After 35 Years of Service

Columbus, GA, July 7, 2009 – Synovus (NYSE: SNV), the Columbus, Georgia-based financial services company, today announced the retirement of W. Luther Taylor from the position of Regional CEO, effective August 1, 2009. Taylor will also retire as Chairman of Synovus’ Pensacola, Florida-based Coastal Bank and Trust Board of Directors on January 31, 2010.  Thomas “Bo” Carter, CEO of Coastal Bank and Trust of Florida, will also assume the role of Chairman of the Board upon Taylor’s retirement.

Taylor began his career with Synovus in 1973 in the Management Training Program of Columbus Bank and Trust, and served in various banking positions including Assistant to the President under Jim Blanchard. In 1983, he was selected as Chairman and CEO of the Bank of Hazlehurst, and became the Chairman and CEO of the Bank of Pensacola in 1991, now named Coastal Bank and Trust of Florida. Taylor was named Synovus Regional CEO in 2003.

Taylor’s community involvement includes numerous civic, social and business organizations, from serving on the boards of the American Red Cross, American Heart Association and the Chamber of Commerce. While a member of the Rotary Club, Taylor was named a Paul Harris Fellow, and currently serves as Vice Chairman of Baptist Health Care in Pensacola. He also shared his leadership skills with the Gulf Coast Council of Boy Scouts while serving two terms as its Chairman, and has been a deacon of the First Baptist Church of Pensacola for many years.
