|Synovus Presents 2008 Chairman’s Awards
March 18, 2009, Columbus, GA – Synovus (NYSE: SNV), the Columbus, Georgia-based financial services company, recently announced the presentation of its annual Chairman’s Awards. The Chairman’s Awards – the James H. Blanchard Leadership Award, the James D. Yancey Customer Covenant Award and the William B. Turner Humanitarian Award – reflect the company’s culture and the emphasis placed on leadership, customer satisfaction and serving others.
The Chairman’s Award recipients are chosen from nominations submitted by team members throughout the Synovus family of companies.
Mark Lane, President and CEO of SB&T, headquartered in Albany, Georgia, was presented the James H. Blanchard Leadership Award. Lane was nominated for his positive and encouraging leadership style during a time of change for the bank. He was also honored for his leadership in the community, sharing his time and talent with numerous organizations, including the Dougherty County Economic Development Commission and the Governor’s Office for Children and Families. Synovus awards the James H. Blanchard Leadership Award to individuals who show the greatest use of leadership and interpersonal skills such as teamwork, communications and coaching in various corporate, departmental and community roles. This award is named after retired Chairman and CEO Jim Blanchard, who set a high standard for leadership throughout his 36-year tenure leading the company.
Meredith Strahle, Personal Banker with Synovus Bank, located in Tampa, Florida, received the James D. Yancey Customer Covenant Award. Strahle’s nomination documented her superior level of customer service to internal and external customers and her passion for mentoring others to find new ways of meeting the needs of customers. This award is named in honor of former Synovus Chairman Jimmy Yancey, who always put the needs of the customer first. Yancey led the effort to codify Synovus’ commitment to exceptional customer service through the company’s Customer Covenant.
Billy Blanchard, Retail Banking Executive, Columbus Bank and Trust, located in Columbus, Georgia, received the William B. Turner Humanitarian Award. Blanchard was honored for his service to the youth and economic future of his community which includes his work with Young Life, United Way and as Chairman of the Greater Chamber of Commerce Economic Development Advisory Board. This award is named in honor of former Chairman of Synovus’ Executive Committee William B. Turner for his keen sense of responsibility to serve individuals and the community. Turner has inspired others through his deep moral and spiritual convictions to make a difference with their employees and in their families.
