2022 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Report

2022 Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Report

Diversity at Synovus
Creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment continues to be a priority at Synovus, and 2022 was a great year of progress!

In many ways, 2022 was a year of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) progress and growth at Synovus. We continued our trend of increasing the representation of women and people of color in leadership-level positions. In addition, the percentage of women on our executive leadership team increased to 50%.

Our team members also poured their energy into team member and leadership development, employee resource group (ERG) initiatives, and the communities we serve. While we are proud of the continued progress we have made, we also recognize we have much more work to do. We remain as committed as ever to our DEI journey.

- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Director Michael Durroh

Talent Progress

To create a workplace that is more accessible and equitable, we start with our talent. Team members are enthusiastically embracing DEI as important to their growth and development.

Here are key steps we’re taking to build a more robust and diverse pipeline:

Accelerated Banker
The Synovus Accelerated Banker (AB) and Internship programs are high-profile, high-exposure programs designed to prepare future leaders for careers with the bank. Synovus makes it a priority to attract, develop, and retain a diverse mix of team members for these critical programs. 38% of the AB roles accepted were women, and 25% were people of color.

Youth Entrepreneurship by Synovus (YES)
In June of 2022, our Community Reinvestment Act community development team launched YES, an innovative youth small business entrepreneurship program for Upward Bound students.

Diversity Symposium
The talent acquisition team’s annual Diversity Symposium helps us attract top talent in Atlanta. 70% of the roles accepted were people of color, and 52% were women.

Community Reinvestment Act Volunteerism
The Synovus human resources team volunteered at the Atlanta Metropolitan State College, providing interview skills and resume writing advice.

Foundational Progress

Influencing our culture takes time but will prove to be the most valuable aspect of our DEI initiatives. By continuing to lay a strong foundation and building on our values, we’re creating a learning environment where DEI is embedded in our culture.

Our foundational initiatives to ensure DEI is embedded in our culture include:

Learning and Development
In 2022, Synovus delivered Unconscious Bias training for 107 team members through the Ignite Leadership Development Program.

Since 2020, 609 team members and 501 senior leaders have taken Unconscious Bias training.

Synovus also delivered Unconscious Bias training to 39 senior leaders in 2022.

We also developed and delivered Cultivate Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training through the Catalyst On-Demand leadership program to 150 senior leaders. This program received a 2022 Human Capital Management Excellence Award from the Brandon Hall group for its design, implementation, and execution.

Employee Resource Groups
Our ERGs are team member driven and focus on team member morale, professional development, community outreach, and education.

Our ERGs are:

  • African American ERG
  • Aquí Nos - Hispanic/Latino ERG
  • Prism - LGBTQ+ ERG
  • Veterans ERG
  • Women Inspiring Success & Empowerment (WISE) ERG

Awards

  • In 2022, Synovus was named a Great Place to Work-Certified Company and recognized as one of AJC’s Top Workplaces in Atlanta.
  • Among other awards, Synovus was also presented with a 2022 Residential Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Leadership Award by the Mortgage Bankers Association.

As we continue our DEI journey, we are committed to creating an environment that appreciates the individuality of all our team members and know that leveraging these differences is essential to our long-term success.
