When considering what to do after the military, Rico felt customer service was his path. After working at various large firms, he landed at Synovus, thanks to a recruiter.
While he hadn’t heard of the company until being approached, he’s now confident that it was serendipitous, as he loves Synovus and its company culture. His enthusiasm for Synovus is palatable, and a lot of that is thanks to the Veteran’s Employee Resource Group, of which he is vice-chair.
“It’s been great being able to network with a lot of people [through the group],” he says. “I’m always vocal about the ERG and promoting it, and we’re always looking for ways to collaborate with other departments.” That means working with service partners like House of Heroes, a veterans organization based in Columbus, GA, and welcoming and networking with newly transitioned veterans.
“When a veteran joins Synovus, we reach out,” he says. “We walk them through everything to help them get acclimated to the company culture, and we invite them to join the ERG. It’s not just about talking military jargon and history. A lot of what we do is for growth.”
