Welcome to Columbus

Nestled on the banks of the Chattahoochee River in west Georgia, Columbus is home to Synovus headquarters. Here is where our bank had its humble beginnings in 1888, when a mill worker’s hard-earned savings spilled from the hem of her dress after it became entangled in factory machinery. Taking notice, a company executive offered to secure her money in the vault and pay her interest — a service soon extended to all of the mill’s workers. Those deposits marked the beginning of the bank that would become Synovus. Our mission is focused on helping the people and businesses in our community reach their full potential.
