Synovus Chief Strategy Officer Liz Wolverton Named One of 25 Women to Watch for 2017

COLUMBUS, Ga., Sept. 25, 2017 American Banker has named Synovus Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) Liz Wolverton one of 25 Women to Watch for 2017 in its annual Most Powerful Women in Banking and Finance listing. This is Wolverton’s third consecutive appearance on the list, which recognizes women for their impact on their company, industry, and community at large, as well as their leadership and innovation-development capabilities. Wolverton is the only Georgia banker on this year’s list.

“We are proud that American Banker has again recognized Liz as one of our industry’s most dynamic women leaders,” said Kessel Stelling, Synovus chairman and CEO. “Liz continues to lead some of the most important long-term initiatives for our company and we are fortunate to benefit from her vision and energy.”

As chief strategy officer, Wolverton works with all of Synovus’ business lines, as well as the executive and finance teams, to develop and implement the company’s strategic plan; identify and assess growth and business development opportunities; partner with business unit leaders to quantify return on investment of recommended business development projects; and monitor ongoing profitability.

Wolverton has been chief strategy officer since 2014. She began her banking career with Synovus in 2003 as director of accounting and financial analysis. She was promoted in 2011 to senior director of banking, which she held until her appointment as CSO.

The complete rankings can be viewed at American Banker’s website, and are featured in the October issue of American Banker magazine. The honorees will be celebrated at a dinner and awards ceremony on October 5 at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City, hosted by American Banker and parent company SourceMedia.
