CB&T and Armed Forces Financial Network Assist Local Ft Benning School
Columbus, GA - Columbus Bank and Trust, a division of Synovus Bank, recently presented a check for $3,000 to Frank R. Loyd Elementary School on Fort Benning. The donation – $1,500 from CB&T and matching funds from the Armed Forces Financial Network (AFFN) – will be used by the school to purchase sidewalk benches needed during school arrival and dismissal times, and handheld radios for more efficient communications during bus loading periods and for directing hallway traffic/drills.
“CB&T is proud to support the Loyd Elementary School,” commented John Mitchell, a Military Liaison for the bank and AFFN Board Member. “Both the bank and our Armed Forces Financial Network partners remain committed to serving the military community in ways that go beyond providing financial services. CB&T’s goal is to support the total well-being of our soldiers and their families. We believe one way to accomplish that is to help the schools on post.”
The Armed Forces Financial Network launched the Military Community Support Program in 2003, inspired by a request from a Fort Benning teacher, who is also the wife of a former CB&T employee. Armed Forces Financial Network’s response to her idea resulted in the contribution of over $1 million by AFFN and its member banks and credit unions to programs all over the Department of Defense footprint. The AFFN also supports financial literacy training, wounded soldiers’ rehabilitation, family emergency assistance and other programs.
The check presentation ceremony was held on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at the school with faculty and parents in attendance.
The Armed Forces Financial Network is an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) Network founded in 1985, co-owned by The Defense Credit Union Council and The Association of Military Banks of America, serving over 353 defense credit unions and military banks, 93 million cardholders, at over 500,000 ATMs and 2.3 million merchant/retail locations globally.
