|October 21, 2010, Columbus, GA – Synovus (NYSE: SNV), the Columbus, Georgia-based financial services company, and the company’s Partner In Education, Britt David Magnet Academy, recently completed a peanut butter and jelly drive to coincide with Synovus’ annual United Way fundraising campaign. The jars will be donated to the Feeding the Valley Food Bank in Columbus. This project is part of Synovus’ community outreach effort called REACH: Recognizing and Encouraging an Atmosphere of Community and of Hope.
In total, Synovus team members and the students, parents and staff of Britt David Magnet Academy collected 4,401 jars of peanut butter and jelly, which is 6,549 pounds. That is enough to make more than 52,000 sandwiches (with approximately two ounces of PB&J spread on each sandwich).
“This successful response from our team members and educational partner in our first collection drive is another example of our company’s passion and commitment to contributing to those in need,” said Lee Lee James, Chief People Officer and CIO of Synovus. “I am extremely proud of the impact our team members consistently make on the communities where we live and work.”
“We are very surprised and pleased with the response to this drive, and we are grateful Synovus and Britt David chose us to benefit from their generosity,” said Babbs Douglas, Director of Feeding the Valley Food Bank. “Because of their efforts, we will be able to help more families provide their children with one of our most requested items.”
Other Synovus divisions also had successful peanut butter and jelly drives to support their communities this year, including the Bank of North Georgia in Atlanta, First Commercial Bank in Huntsville, Alabama and NBSC in Columbia, South Carolina.
Feeding the Valley Food Bank of Columbus was established in 1983 with the simple mission of feeding those in need in the Chattahoochee Valley. The food bank serves 150 non-profit agencies and schools in 13 counties in Georgia and Alabama. The organization has distributed more than 14 million pounds of food this year.
