|Synovus Presents 2009 Chairman’s Awards
June 8, 2010, Columbus, GA – Synovus (NYSE: SNV), the Columbus, Georgia-based financial services company, recently announced the presentation of its annual Chairman’s Awards. The Chairman’s Awards – the James H. Blanchard Leadership Award, the James D. Yancey Customer Covenant Award and the William B. Turner Humanitarian Award – reflect the company’s culture and the emphasis placed on leadership, customer satisfaction and serving others.
The Chairman’s Award recipients are chosen from nominations submitted by team members throughout the Synovus family of companies.
Angie Lewis, CEO of Citizens First Bank, headquartered in Rome, Georgia, and Jeff Kennedy, Group Executive for Synovus Information Technology, were presented the James H. Blanchard Leadership Award.
Lewis was honored for her balanced leadership skills that range from holding individuals accountable to motivating and nurturing a winning spirit at her bank. The Rome City Commission recently declared “Angie Lewis Day” in the city.
Kennedy was recognized for his proven effectiveness as a coach and leader, and his distinctive sense of humor and humility that keeps his team connected to the company’s vision for success.
Synovus awards the James H. Blanchard Leadership Award to individuals who demonstrate the best use of leadership and interpersonal skills such as teamwork, communications and coaching in various corporate, departmental and community roles. This award is named after retired Chairman and CEO Jim Blanchard, who set a high standard for leadership throughout his 36-year tenure at Synovus.
Kim Brannen, Relationship Manager with Sea Island Bank, in Savannah, Georgia, received the James D. Yancey Customer Covenant Award. Brannen was honored for her professional knowledge and uncompromising passion as she offers her customers the right combination of products and services while never missing an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of their goals, preferences and needs. This award is named in honor of former Synovus Chairman Jimmy Yancey, who always put the needs of the customer first.
Rhonda Wallace, Business Banker at Citizens First Bank in Rome, and Sandy Edwards, Cash Management Sales Representative at First Commercial Bank in Huntsville, Alabama, received the William B. Turner Humanitarian Award.
Wallace’s nomination noted her life-long commitment to serving others through her work with numerous community and church organizations, while always being there to help a team member, family or friend.
Edwards was honored for her servant leadership style with various non-profit organizations, her passion for community service and for creating a culture of making each team member feel they have an opportunity to make a difference in their community.
This award is named in honor of the former Chairman of Synovus’ Executive Committee, William B. Turner, for his keen sense of responsibility to serve individuals and the community. Turner has inspired others through his deep moral and spiritual convictions to make a difference with their employees and in their families.
