Synovus Presents 2007 Chairman’s Awards

February 28, 2008, Columbus, GA – Synovus (NYSE: SNV), the Columbus, Georgia-based financial services company, recently announced the presentation of its annual Chairman’s Awards. The Chairman’s Awards – the James H. Blanchard Leadership Award, the James D. Yancey Customer Covenant Award and the William B. Turner Humanitarian Award – reflect the company’s culture and the emphasis placed on leadership, customer satisfaction and serving others.

The Chairman’s Award recipients are chosen from nominations submitted by team members throughout the Synovus family of companies.

 Presented the James H. Blanchard Leadership Award were:

D. Copeland – President and CEO of Citizens First Bank, Alison Dowe – Director of Corporate  Communications for Synovus, Sherri Morgan – Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications of Bank of North Georgia, Damon Olinto – President and COO of Synovus Bank of Jacksonville and J. Barton Singleton – President Synovus Financial Management Services.

 · Copeland was nominated as a result of his pivotal leadership role and caring management style at Citizens First Bank.

·  Dowe was honored for her “lead by example” management style and genuine concern for the career and personal success of each member of her team.

·  Morgan was selected for her caring and enthusiastic leadership of Bank of North Georgia’s marketing team to deliver consistently high results.

·  Olinto was honored for being one of the visionary leaders of Synovus’ first “de novo” bank, as well as his volunteer roles in his church and community.

·  Singleton’s nomination highlighted his role in meeting the challenges of guiding the growth and profitability of Synovus’ securities line of business, and being a caring, positive influence on others.

 Synovus awards the James H. Blanchard Leadership Award to individuals who show the greatest use of leadership and interpersonal skills like teamwork, communications and coaching in various corporate, departmental and community roles.  This award is named after retired Chairman and CEO Jim Blanchard who set a high standard for leadership throughout his 36-year tenure leading the company.

Juanita Gilman, Senior Relationship Manager with Synovus Trust was presented the James D. Yancey Customer Covenant Award. Gilman’s nomination documented her dedication and focus on customer service that she considers a “calling” and her role as a mentor to others in her department.  This award is named in honor of former Synovus Chairman Jimmy Yancey, who always put the needs of the customer first. Yancey led the effort to codify Synovus’ commitment to exceptional customer service through the company’s Customer Covenant.

 Eddie Lowe, Retail Banking Executive, CB&T Bank of East Alabama, received the William B. Turner Humanitarian Award.  Lowe was honored for his wide range of community service from his role as Chairman of the Phenix City School Board and coaching duties at the Boys and Girls Club of Phenix City, to hosting a local cable program spotlighting the positive events in the community. This award is named in honor of former Chairman of Synovus’ Executive Committee William B. Turner for his keen sense of responsibility to serve individuals and the community. Turner has inspired others through his deep moral and spiritual convictions to make a difference with their employees and in their families.
