|American Bankers Association Recognizes Synovus
And Bank Divisions for Volunteer Efforts
|Team members contribute more than 35,000 volunteer hours|
|February 22, 2011, Columbus, GA – Synovus and two of its bank divisions, Columbus Bank and Trust and Bank of North Georgia, were recently recognized at the 2011 American Bankers Association (ABA) National Conference for Community Bankers held in San Diego, California for their contributions to the community. CB&T was one of seven category winners from across the country, and was presented the “Revitalizing Your Community” award for its partnership with the Columbus Police Department to open the combination East Columbus Banking Center and Police Precinct. Synovus and Bank of North Georgia each received letters of recognition for outstanding service to the community.
“Our team members have always gone above and beyond to contribute to making a difference in the communities we serve, and the success of our company is directly linked to the level of caring and concern our team members demonstrate for the needs of individuals and organizations across our footprint,” said Kessel D. Stelling, President and CEO of Synovus. “We are especially proud of the visionary leadership at CB&T, which recognized a community necessity, and worked to create a public and private partnership that serves the needs of the city and our customers.”
“This is a real honor,” said CB&T President and CEO Billy Blanchard. “This important partnership with the Columbus Police Department is more than a meeting of two unlikely industries. It is a joint commitment to the residents and businesses in East Columbus. We’ve been open for about six months, and the impact this project has had on this area of town has been significant. We’re now able to provide the customers in East Columbus full-service banking products and services in a new and more secure environment and offer our police an additional location to serve the citizens of Columbus.”
Synovus and Bank of North Georgia were recognized for various community projects including: Teach Children to Save, a Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive, the United Way Fundraising Campaign and House of Heroes revitalization projects. These efforts are part of Synovus’ overall community outreach effort called REACH: Recognizing and Encouraging an Atmosphere of Community and of Hope. During 2010, Synovus and its divisions participated in thousands of projects contributing more than 35,000 hours of volunteer time.
The ABA Community Bank Awards program was established in 2005 to recognize community banks’ outstanding charitable achievements. The selection committee recognized nine banks as winners from more than 100 entries, based on innovation, creativity and effectiveness of the bank’s approach to making a difference in the community. Entries were judged in seven categories: Helping Achieve Homeownership, Encouraging Volunteerism, Fundraising for Foundations and Local Groups, Improving Financial Literacy, Reaching Out to the Underserved, Building with Habitat for Humanity and Revitalizing Your Community.
