Synovus Announces Merger of First Florida Bank into Synovus Bank of Tampa Bay

December 21, 2007, Columbus, GA Synovus (NYSE: SNV), the Columbus, Georgia-based financial services company, today announced plans to merge its Naples-based bank, First Florida Bank, into Synovus Bank of Tampa Bay, Florida, pending regulatory approval.

“This new combination of talent, products and expertise will enhance our ability to serve customers and maximize the growth potential on the west coast of Florida,” said Fred L. Green III, President and COO of Synovus. “Customers in this region will benefit by having access to competitive offerings delivered by bankers who are empowered to offer flexible, needs-based financial services solutions.”

Following the consolidation, David W. Dunbar will continue in his role as CEO of the expanded Synovus Bank of Tampa Bay. Robert “Bob” Smedley, current President and CEO of First Florida Bank, will retire on January 31, 2008, but will continue to serve the bank in an advisory role.

The newly expanded Synovus Bank of Tampa Bay will have a total asset size of $1.68 billion with 27 bank locations in 9 counties, and will continue to offer a full range of banking products, as well as mortgage, insurance and investments.
