Synovus Announces 2010 REACH Awards

March 21, 2011, Columbus, GA – Synovus (NYSE: SNV), the Columbus, Georgia-based financial services company, recently announced the recipients of its 2010 REACH Awards. REACH, which is Synovus’ community outreach program, stands for Recognizing and Encouraging an Atmosphere of Community and of Hope. The REACH Awards honor the volunteer efforts of an individual and a team who embrace the REACH initiative by participating in hands-on efforts that make a significant difference in the community where they live and work.

The REACH Volunteer of the Year 2010 is Karen Eckford, Community Regional Executive with NBSC, a division of Synovus Bank. Eckford’s volunteer activities include her service as the Chairperson of the Kershaw County Economic Development Committee of 100, Chairperson of the Kershaw County Fine Arts Center, and Vice-Chairperson of Food for the Soul in Kershaw County. She also chaired a Wine Tasting and Silent Auction event that raised $11,000 in one night to benefit the education initiatives of the Camden Rotary Club.

The Combined Charities Committee from the Bank of Coweta (Newnan, Georgia), a division of Synovus Bank, was honored as the REACH Volunteer Team of the Year for 2010. The team members include Leigh Brown, Pam Clemons, Theresa Davis, Victoria Ellison, Jennifer Johnson, Kim Resmondo and Crystal Roberts. This group was honored because of their commitment to serving the local community by planning and coordinating fund raising events to benefit organizations including the Newnan-Coweta Boys and Girls Club, Angel’s House, Coweta Humane Society, the American Cancer Society, the March of Dimes and the Jack Parker Scholarship Fund.

“We honor these team members who represent our company’s commitment to serving our communities by taking care of the needs of others,” said Kessel D. Stelling, President and CEO of Synovus. “I continue to be amazed and proud of the work our teams do everyday to make a positive impact on the individuals and organizations across our Southeastern footprint.”
