Synovus Banks Honored by American Bankers Education Foundation
 
The National Bank of South Carolina Wins Million Child Challenge
January 15, 2009, Columbus, GA – Synovus affiliated banks were recently honored by the American Bankers Education Foundation (ABAEF) for participating in the organization’s Million Child Challenge, and the 2009 Teach Children to Save Day. Last year, Synovus banks volunteered more than 9,000 hours to various financial education programs, a contribution featured in the foundation’s recent newsletter.

 “We are very proud of the recognition and the role our banks play in improving the financial education of the children in the markets we serve,” said Richard Anthony, Synovus Chairman and CEO. “Our efforts to build banking knowledge and financial confidence will help young people become smarter consumers in the future.”

The National Bank of South Carolina (NBSC) was also named the winner of the Million Child Challenge for being the financial institution to teach the millionth child in 2009. For its effort, NBSC won $1,000 to be donated to the Annie Burnside Elementary School in Columbia, South Carolina.

The ABA Education Foundation provides financial education programs and resources that help bankers make communities better. Nearly 100,000 bankers have taught basic finance skills to about four million young people through participation in the Foundation’s signature programs, “Teach Children to Save Day” and “Get Smart about Credit”.
