|William R. “Billy” Blanchard Named President of CB&T
|Melton continues as Regional Executive and CEO, Carmichael and McRae promoted in LaGrange|
October 8, 2009, Columbus, GA – Synovus (NYSE: SNV), the Columbus, Georgia-based financial services company, today announced the appointment of William R. “Billy” Blanchard to the position of President of Columbus Bank and Trust (CB&T). Steve Melton will continue in his role as Synovus Regional CEO and CEO of CB&T. Jimmy Yancey will remain as Chairman of the Board of Directors.

Blanchard’s career with Synovus began in 1995 as a Management Associate with CB&T. During his 15-year banking career, he has worked as a credit analyst and served as Business Development Officer and Commercial Lender in the Corporate Banking Department. He most recently served as Executive Vice President of Retail Banking for CB&T. Blanchard is a graduate of Berry College in Rome, Georgia, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration.
The company also announced the promotion of William F. “Frank” McRae to the position of President and CEO of Commercial Bank and Trust, its affiliate bank in LaGrange, Georgia. Robert L. “Bobby” Carmichael, former President and CEO of Commercial Bank and Trust, was named to the position of Executive Vice President and Regional COO for Synovus. Carmichael continues as Chairman of the Board of Directors of Commercial Bank and Trust. In his new role, he will be responsible for building cohesiveness among leaders in the Central Region, which includes CB&T, Columbus; CB&T, LaGrange; CB&T of East Alabama, Phenix City; and CB&T of Middle Georgia, Warner Robins.
