	is a division of Synovus Trust Company, N.A. specializing in foundation and endowment services. Canterbury was the first independently chartered trust company in the state of Alabama in 1992, privately-owned until acquisition by Synovus Trust in 1999. Canterbury provides trust, custody, consulting, and investment management services to various corporate, civic and not-for-profit organizations.

	began in 1994 as individual, affiliate bank mortgage departments offering full-service mortgage banking. In 2000, SMC brought each department under the one company. SMC offers loans from conventional to FHA and VA as well as alternative lending and affordable housing products.
